Holy crap, a month and some since the last post? Even with our record November? Our team/goalie/captain/road record/everything except when we play Chicago or Colorado/etc. is awesome, y/y?Discuss.OH AND GUESS WHO WAS NHL'S STAR OF THE MONTH FOR NOVEMBER?? Our very own declining, according to CalgaryPuck captain IGGY and his 13 goals & 7 assists. Fuck yes!
DISCUSS. ;)Okay so we did lots of that last night, I just wanted an excuse to squee.Oh, I need to make an edit~
More seriously: It's been great to watch the pieces all fall into place. I think Iggy's Run of November Awesomeness™ is a direct result of the system actually WORKING (though the defensive end has taken longer than I'd hoped to come together), along with him just being straight-up awesome. Players are playing to their strengths and within their roles, and it's ... awesome.Yes.Awesome.I don't know what it is about Chicago/Colorado's systems that matches up with ours so well (er, for them), or if it's just our boys and their silly brains... whatever it is, I can't put my finger on it, but I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to see them fix that shit. Yo.Either way - doing better than I expected, and I had high expectations.Keep on keepin' on, boys./end
It really has. October wasn't as horrible as other Octobers in recent years but man I remember being SO fed up with the D.. and so depressed at Iggy's play. A month later, no complaints. :D I haven't gotten to see as many games as everyone IN the Sportsnet West area, but I keep hearing last night was one of their most complete games. Another one I love: The third period of the Ducks game. I know we lost, but the fact that they got 20ish SOG in THAT PERIOD ALONE and never gave up even with eighteen seconds left made me so deliriously happy with the one point. I really can't wait until Rene is back. I hope the injuries don't pile up again. >:oA lot of people tell me "oh, Chicago and Colorado are young and fast" ....but is Colorado REALLY that young and fast? It's teams like them and San Jose that I hope we can beat... we already saw in October that we can score on Chicago. It' sjust NOT RELAXING AROUND THEM FOR A GODDAMN SECOND that Calgary has to worry about. :PActually, one thing I realized last night is... they go and win a bunch of games every time Chicago embarrasses them. ;)But still... I'm happy. Record month, what.
for the record it seems like no one is talking hockey on here anymore. The hockey community has very little posting compared to last year. I never EVER sweat early season stuff, especially because I know Brent Sutter's system takes some getting used to. Still they went 7-4-1 in October which was totally fine. Iginla never scores much in that month and the D was getting used to each other (phaneuf and regeher had to iron out their play together because they've never played great together to this point and from what I've heard from some people close to the team they aren't overly friendly off the ice either). This team is made for a playoff run and honestly if we go the way the Sutter's are taking us, this team could challenge for conference title. Kipper is unreal so far. If he plays like this all season, after a sort of slow start numbers wise, he may challenge for not only the Vezina but the Hart as well.Make no mistake, this team is built to win NOW. Iggy is at the bubble age where he may only have a couple really big years left. I don't sweat the Colorado stuff, they will eventually fall off when the meat of the season hits them with that young of a team. Chicago is our sort of nemesis and most teams have one, so that's the one they need to figure out how to stop. They do seem to be wildly outskated by them every time they play. San Jose has a monster team too, hopefully our big D will punish them and make it tough to find any offensive room for that big line. It will be fun come playoff time.
Haha I post on Calgarypuck and that thread saying Iggy is on the decline gets made fun of regularly now!
