Leafs vs. Flames (Calgary wins 3-1)

Let's try to get this community back up and running for 2010?

First of all, it looks like the Flames are taking the Sutter system more to heart as we enter a new year. Good game by the team, notwithstanding the penalties taken.

Hope Phaneuf is alright.

I wish the team played like they really want and need the 2 points on a more frequent basis, sometimes I wonder where the drive has gone. The last 40 suggests it hasn't disappeared. Whew!

Other things to discuss: Iginla, Jokinen, and Kiprusoff to the Olympics. Bouwmeester isn't?! Not as surprised about Phaneuf not being named, given his play so far this season. Sad to not see Regehr named.

Calgary 24-12-5 (53 points)
Toronto 14-9-9 (37 points)

DAMNIT. Iggy scores, sets up the other two, we wear our retro jerseys and I FREAKING MISS IT.

Oh well, at least we won. XD

Plus, it was the first of the doubleheader on Hockey Night in Canada!

Yeah, early games blow goats when you're on the west coast. :( Thank GOD I don't follow an Eastern team!

It's a bit of a rip that Bouwmeester didn't get named but it came down to pretty much one thing. Doughty has been on fire and Bo has been working into this new system(along with the rest of the team) and the miscues made him look not as solid.

I have however noticed that he's been playing like a man possessed the last three games since the naming. I don't think he's happy about that and he's going to show them they made a mistake. In the end, Doughty is good but really he's very young and it's really not fair to name him just on a decent season and a very good half a season. I wouldn't count out his chances still though, there is always the unfortunate injury possibility and I'm sure he would be next in line.

In reality, I don't like Pronger being on the team. I honestly think he's too slow now to play at top level and he got there on friendship and name recognition alone. That's about the only pick from the Canadian team besides Brad Richards not making it that I was disappointed in.

As for Reggie, love him, glad we have him but he never had a real shot just looking at the depth of Canadian defence and sadly I've seen more guys blow by him than in past years. Keith and Seabrook are studs and have the added plus of playing with each other. Those things can be huge when you need to create chemistry fast.

Kipper is in Vezina form. I love that more than anything going on with the team right now. We have a team that is really starting to resemble '03-'04. I don't mind not scoring a bunch if it means we are winning. They do need to figure out how to get Jokinen going more, he's not really playing bad but he's got to start scoring. We might need to find an "assist machine" if anyone's available. A bonafide set up guy for Jokinen might be what he requires. I wouldn't be shocked to see Dion or Regher get traded if a big time guy came up, like Martin St. Louis or someone like that.

One and a weird occurrence may be coming in a few weeks as long as injuried don't happen

Jarome Iginla will play game 1000 on the road February 5th against the Panthers...

the next night against the Lightning will be game 1000 for Daymond Langkow. I have to believe that's never happened before in the NHL.
